The lawyer is following the rival’s former global co-chair, who moved late last year
Former Spanish Prime Minister José María Aznar has left DLA Piper and is tipped to move to Latham & Watkins.
Spanish business daily Expansión says that Aznar is expected to join the American BigLaw in March.
Aznar was formerly a senior adviser to DLA Piper’s global board. He joined the firm in 2013, playing a major role in its expansion in Latin America.
His move follows that of Juan Picón, Ignacio Gómez-Sancha and José Antonio Sánchez-Dafos to Latham & Watkins late last year. Picón is the former global co-chair of DLA Piper, while Sánchez-Dafos was the head of the firm’s corporate group.
Aznar, who was Spain’s prime minister between 2996 and 2004, is expected to focus on cementing Latham & Watkins’ position in Latin America.
