Sullivan & Cromwell has promoted its Sydney office chief along with four other lawyers to the firm’s partnership.
The appointments of Waldo D. Jones Jr., currently a special counsel, and fellow incoming partners John Horsfield-Bradbury, Joseph J. Matelis, Jeffrey B. Wall and Thomas C. White will be effective on 1 January 2017, an email from chairman Joseph C. Shenker which was obtained by Above The Law reveals.
Jones, who joined Sullivan & Cromwell as an associate in its New York office in 1990, is currently the special counsel that heads up the Sullivan & Cromwell’s Sydney office. He was previously resident in the Firm’s Melbourne office during 1992 to 1994 and 1996 to 2001.
Jones regularly advises U.S. and non-U.S. corporations and broker-dealers, and non-U.S. governments, on securities, privatization, merger and acquisition, project finance, venture capital and joint venture transactions in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Latin America.
The capital markets and M&A specialist finished his B.A. from Rutgers University - New Brunswick in 1985 and his J.D. from University of Pittsburgh Law School in 1990.
Meanwhile, Horsfield-Bradbury handles equity and debt capital-markets transactions, cross-border mergers and acquisitions, and credit and leveraged finance at the firms London office. An associate in the firm’s General Practice Group, he finished his B.A. and Masters in Math from Cambridge in 2004 and 2005, respectively, and his J.D. from Harvard in 2008.
Matelis is a special counsel in Washington, D.C. focused on antitrust matters, including merger reviews, other government proceedings involving competition issues, litigation, and counselling. He finished his B.A. from the University of North Carolina in 1993 and his J.D. from Harvard in 1996.
Wall is a special counsel in Washington, D.C. who co-heads the firm’s Appellate Litigation Practice. He finished his B.A. from Georgetown in 1998 and his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School in 2003. Despite being a 2003 graduate, he has already argued 11 cases before the US Supreme Court.
White is a special counsel in the firm’s New York office who is part of the firm’s Litigation Group. He represents global companies and financial institutions in complex commercial litigation, arbitration, and government investigations in the areas of securities law, contract disputes, ERISA, and bank regulation. He finished his A.B. from Dartmouth in 2004 and his J.D. from Yale in 2007.
