Promotions are part of a wider initiative advancing 63 lawyers globally
DLA Piper Australia has announced the partnership promotions of Sarah Wilson and Cate Martin.
Wilson is part of the firm’s corporate practice in Melbourne, while Martin is part of the pro bono practice in Sydney. Both were elevated to the partner position as part of a global round of promotions, during which DLA Piper named 63 new partners across various practice areas in 37 offices.
Commenting on the promotions, Australian managing partner Amber Matthews referred to Wilson and Martin as “exceptional people and lawyers.”
“They always go the extra mile for their colleagues and clients and are valued for their expertise and commitment to their respective fields,” said Matthews.
Wilson specialises on domestic and cross-border private treaty mergers and acquisitions, corporate advisory, and capital raisings. She has experience working in a wide range of sectors, including consumer goods, food, retail, and infrastructure.
Additionally, Wilson’s appointment comes as DLA Piper marks another milestone. For the 14th consecutive year, the firm has advised on more M&A transactions compared to others globally.
“I’m excited by the opportunity to leverage the firm’s international platform to support our clients in fulfilling their most ambitious goals,” said Wilson. “Private capital deal making has grown to unprecedented levels in Australia and I’m looking forward to assisting our clients at every stage of the M&A lifecycle.”
Pro bono partner says promotion reflects social impact commitment
Martin has been at the forefront of DLA Piper’s pro bono efforts across the Asia Pacific for the last nine years. Her work centres on empowering individuals and bridging justice gaps through partnerships with Pacific Island governments, UN agencies, universities, NGOs, and communities facing vulnerabilities.
“This promotion reflects the firm’s dedication to our pro bono program globally and the significance of the Asia Pacific region in our work,” said Martin. “As one of the world’s largest providers of pro bono legal services, it’s a privilege to do the work I do, at a firm whose commitment to sustainability and social impact are at its heart.”
