Recent expansion by Polsinelli nearly halves Holland & Knight’s lawyers in Philadelphia
Polsinelli recently established its new Philadelphia office and welcomed 47 lawyers to the firm who previously worked at Holland & Knight.
An ABA Journal article said that 47 lawyers in all left Holland & Knight, including 35 assigned to the new Philadelphia office, to become a part of Polsinelli. This recent expansion by Polsinelli nearly halved Holland & Knight’s lawyers in Philadelphia, reported Reuters.
Polsinelli’s new additions practise in areas including employee benefits and executive compensation, employee stock ownership plans, employment litigation, mergers and acquisitions, financial services litigation, life sciences, and real estate.
The total expansion included 30 lawyers as shareholders, one counsel, and 16 associates. In Philadelphia, Polsinelli welcomed 24 shareholders, one counsel, and 10 associates. The firm also added six shareholders in Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago, and New York, as well as six associates in Los Angeles, Denver, and Dallas.
Polsinelli appointed John Martini – executive partner at his previous firm and leader of its tax, benefits, and executive compensation practice group – as office managing partner in Philadelphia. Martini also co-chairs Polsinelli’s executive compensation and employee benefits practice.
Martini advises public companies, private equity firms, and management teams on various aspects of the employment relationship, including executive compensation and corporate governance.
“It is evident that Polsinelli is clearly on a steep success trajectory, and I am thrilled to join the firm on this exciting path,” said Martini in Polsinelli’s news release. “Polsinelli’s collective expertise in financial services, energy, life sciences and real estate is a perfect complement for the talent of our team and the needs of our clients.”
Valerie Brown, a shareholder practising commercial litigation in the new Philadelphia office, echoed Martini’s sentiments. Brown also has a national labor and employment practice.
“As the legal industry has evolved, our ability as lawyers to consistently deliver optimal outcomes and superior service for our clients depends increasingly upon our ability to address clients’ need in a high-touch manner,” said Brown in the news release.
Polsinelli’s work covers the life sciences, health care, energy, and financial services sectors. The firm also announced Thomas Yoo as chair of the newly established life sciences products liability practice group. Yoo, experienced in mass tort litigations, has held leadership roles in federal multidistrict litigations and statewide coordinated proceedings.
